wood duck
Iridescent tree-nesting drake
A wood duck is a North American duck known for its striking, multicolored plumage—the male displays iridescent greens, purples, and whites with distinctive face markings.
Unlike most ducks, wood ducks nest in tree cavities near water: We spotted a wood duck hen leading her ducklings to the pond.
