wineberry
Hairy red fruit
Wineberry is a raspberry relative native to East Asia, now naturalized in eastern North America.
The plant produces small, sweet-tart red berries prized for eating fresh or in preserves.
Its stems are covered with distinctive red, hair-like bristles.
The name also applies to various other berry-producing plants and, in New Zealand, to an unrelated native tree with dark red wood.
