crown rot
Plant base disease
Crown rot is a fungal or bacterial disease affecting the crown of a plant—the junction where stem meets roots at or just below soil level.
The infection causes tissue to soften, darken, and decay, often killing the plant.
Common in overwatered houseplants and poorly drained gardens: The orchid died from crown rot after water pooled in its leaves.
