transpiration
Leaves releasing vapor
Transpiration is the process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves, primarily through tiny pores called stomata.
This evaporation draws water upward from roots through the plant's vascular system.
The term also applies more broadly to any passage of moisture through a membrane or surface.
In casual use, transpiration sometimes appears as a fancy variant of perspiration: After the hike, transpiration was evident on everyone's brow.
