warrioress

Woman who battles

A warrioress is a female warrior—a woman who fights in battle or embodies the spirit of a fighter.

The word appears in fantasy fiction and historical romance more than in serious military contexts, where warrior now serves for all genders: The warrioress raised her sword against the dragon.

Some find the -ess suffix old-fashioned or unnecessary.
