Artemisia
Aromatic shrub family
Artemisia is a feminine given name of Greek origin, connected to the goddess Artemis.
The name is best known from Artemisia I of Caria, a naval commander who fought for Persia at the Battle of Salamis, and Artemisia II, who built the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.
The Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi brought the name renewed recognition. (Lowercase artemisia is a plant genus.)
