walking boot

Orthopedic recovery shoe

A walking boot is a rigid medical boot worn to immobilize and protect the foot or ankle while still allowing limited mobility.

Unlike a cast, it can be removed for bathing or sleeping.

Also called a walking cast or orthopedic boot: The doctor put me in a walking boot for six weeks after I sprained my ankle.
