wad

Crumpled paper ball

A wad is a lump or bundle of soft material pressed together: a wad of chewing gum, a wad of cotton, a wad of cash.

To wad something is to compress it into a ball or stuff it somewhere: He wadded up the paper and threw it away.

In slang, to blow your wad is to spend everything you have—originally referring to the wadding in a firearm, though the phrase now carries sexual overtones.

A wad can also mean a large amount of money: He dropped a wad on that car.
