vulcanised

Sulfur-strengthened rubber process

Vulcanised is the British spelling of vulcanized—describing rubber that has been treated with heat and sulphur to make it harder, more elastic, and more durable.

The process, named after Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, transformed rubber from a sticky, temperature-sensitive material into something practical for tyres, hoses, and countless industrial applications.
