wellington
Waterproof tall boot
A wellington is a waterproof rubber boot reaching to the knee or just below, designed for wet or muddy conditions.
The style originated with leather riding boots but now refers almost exclusively to the rubber version, standard footwear for farmers, gardeners, and festival-goers in Britain: She pulled on her wellingtons to check the flooded garden.
Often shortened to wellies.
In culinary use, beef wellington is a dish of tenderloin wrapped in pâté and puff pastry. (Capitalized Wellington is the capital of New Zealand or the Duke of Wellington.)
