vocalisation

Making audible sounds

Vocalisation is the British spelling of vocalization—the act of producing sounds with the voice.

The term covers everything from speech and singing to grunts, cries, and animal calls: The study examined bird vocalisations at dawn.

In linguistics, it can refer specifically to pronouncing a consonant as a vowel, as when "milk" becomes "miuk" in some dialects.
