visual dictionary
Illustrated word reference
A visual dictionary is a reference book that defines words primarily through images rather than text explanations.
Objects are shown in detailed illustrations or photographs with labeled parts: a diagram of a car identifies the fender, hood, and chassis; a picture of a flower labels the stamen, pistil, and sepal.
Visual dictionaries are particularly useful for concrete nouns, technical vocabulary, and foreign language learning, where seeing the thing clarifies meaning faster than reading about it.
