vent stack
Plumbing exhaust tube
A vent stack is a vertical pipe that extends from a building's drain system through the roof, allowing sewer gases to escape and air to enter the plumbing.
Without it, draining water would create a vacuum that slows flow and can siphon water from traps, letting odors into the building.
Also called a stack vent or plumbing vent.
