counterflashing
Metal weather barrier
Counterflashing is a strip of metal or other material installed over base flashing where a roof meets a vertical surface like a wall or chimney.
The base flashing runs up the vertical surface; the counterflashing is set into a mortar joint or reglet above it and bends down to overlap, creating a watertight seal that sheds water away from the junction.
