grave sin
Serious moral wrong
Grave sin is a Christian theological term for serious moral transgression—wrongdoing severe enough to rupture one's relationship with God.
In Catholic doctrine, grave sin (also called mortal sin) requires full knowledge and deliberate consent; it contrasts with venial sin, which is less serious.
Murder, adultery, and blasphemy are traditionally considered grave sins.
