unliving
Lacking vital signs
Unliving describes something that lacks life or has never been alive.
Unlike dead, which implies previous life, unliving applies to things that were never animate: unliving matter, the unliving components of an ecosystem.
In fantasy and gaming contexts, unliving often describes undead creatures—animated but not truly alive: The unliving horde shambled toward the gates.
