underburn
Controlled ground blaze
To underburn is to burn at lower intensity or for less time than intended or optimal.
In forestry and land management, an underburn is a controlled fire set beneath a forest canopy to clear undergrowth without destroying mature trees: The crew conducted an underburn to reduce wildfire fuel loads.
The term can also describe ceramics or food that hasn't been fired or cooked long enough.
