overburn

Cook past charred

Overburn means to burn too much or too long.

Wood or food that overburns is charred beyond what's wanted.

In CD and DVD burning, overburn refers to writing data beyond the disc's official capacity, squeezing extra minutes onto a disc by using space normally reserved for lead-out: I had to overburn to fit the whole album on one CD.
