Official story skeptic
A truther is someone who believes an official account of a major event is false and that the "real truth" has been suppressed.
The term gained currency with 9/11 truthers, who reject the mainstream explanation of the September 11 attacks.
It now applies to various conspiracy adherents: COVID truthers, election truthers.
The label is often pejorative, implying credulity rather than skepticism.
