MAC address

Network card identifier

A MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to a network device's hardware, used to distinguish it from other devices on a local network.

Unlike IP addresses, which can change, MAC addresses are typically permanent and built into the device at manufacture.

The term comes from Media Access Control, a networking protocol layer.

The router logs every MAC address that connects to it.
