transaxles
Integrated powertrain components
Transaxles combine a transmission and axle differential into a single integrated unit.
This design is standard in front-wheel-drive vehicles, where engine, transmission, and drive axle all sit at the front.
Transaxles also appear in rear-engine and mid-engine cars.
The combined unit saves weight and space compared to separate components connected by a driveshaft.
