transalpine
Past the mountains
Transalpine means on the other side of the Alps, typically from the perspective of Rome—referring to the regions north of the mountain range: transalpine Gaul, transalpine trade routes.
The term appears mainly in historical contexts discussing ancient Roman geography and politics.
The opposite is cisalpine, meaning on the Roman (southern) side.
