tourmalines

Multicolored precious stones

Tourmalines are gemstones prized for their remarkable range of colors, from pink and green to blue and black, sometimes displaying multiple colors in a single crystal.

These boron silicate minerals occur naturally in granite and metamorphic rocks, with gem-quality specimens found in Brazil, Afghanistan, and parts of Africa.

The jeweler showed us tourmalines in every shade imaginable.

Some varieties, called watermelon tourmalines, show pink centers with green outer layers.
