tissue sections
Thin biological specimens
Tissue sections are thin slices of biological tissue prepared for examination under a microscope.
The tissue is typically preserved, embedded in wax or resin, then cut with a microtome into slices just micrometers thick.
These sections are mounted on glass slides and stained to reveal cellular structures: The pathologist examined tissue sections from the biopsy.
