timeshifts

Records for later

Timeshifts refers to the practice of recording broadcast media to watch or listen at a more convenient time, or the technology that enables this.

The term emerged with VCRs and became standard with DVRs and streaming services.

As a verb, to timeshift means to delay consumption of live content: I timeshift most shows so I can skip the commercials.

The concept has expanded beyond television to include podcasts and other time-bound media.
