timeshifting

Recording for later

Timeshifting is recording broadcast media to watch or listen later at a more convenient time.

The practice became widespread with VCRs and DVRs: I'm timeshifting the game so I can skip the commercials.

The term extends to any delay between transmission and consumption, including streaming services that let viewers watch on their own schedule.
