electoral threshold
Vote share cutoff
An electoral threshold is the minimum percentage of votes a political party must receive to gain representation in a legislature.
Countries with proportional representation systems use thresholds—commonly 3% to 5%—to prevent extreme fragmentation and keep fringe parties out of parliament.
The party fell just short of the 5% electoral threshold and won no seats.
