thiosulfate

Photographic developing agent

Thiosulfate is a chemical compound containing sulfur and oxygen, used in photography to fix images by dissolving unexposed silver halide crystals.

Sodium thiosulfate, commonly called "hypo," was essential in film development.

Thiosulfate also serves as a medical antidote for cyanide poisoning and as a dechlorinating agent in water treatment: The aquarium kit includes thiosulfate to neutralize tap water chlorine.
