thermoscope
Temperature change indicator
A thermoscope is an instrument that detects changes in temperature without measuring specific degrees.
Unlike a thermometer, which provides numerical readings, a thermoscope simply indicates whether something is getting warmer or cooler—often through the expansion or contraction of air or liquid in a tube.
The device preceded the thermometer historically and remains useful in demonstrations of thermal principles.
