tetrarchs
Four joint sovereigns
Tetrarchs are rulers of a fourth part of a territory, or more loosely, any of four joint rulers.
The term appears most often in discussions of the late Roman Empire, when Diocletian divided rule among four emperors—two senior (Augusti) and two junior (Caesares).
In the New Testament, Herod Antipas is called a tetrarch, governing part of his father's kingdom.
The singular is tetrarch.
