tarball
Unix file bundle
A tarball is a compressed archive file, bundling multiple files and directories into a single package for storage or transfer.
The name comes from the Unix tar command (tape archive) combined with compression.
Tarballs are standard in Linux and open-source software distribution: Download the tarball and extract it to your home directory.
Common extensions include .tar.gz and .tar.bz2.
