oil sheen
Rainbow on water
An oil sheen is a thin, iridescent film of oil floating on water, producing rainbow-like colors as light refracts through it.
The term appears most often in environmental contexts—spills, leaks, and contamination: Coast Guard crews spotted an oil sheen spreading from the damaged tanker.
Even small amounts of oil create visible sheens on water surfaces.
