taphole
Molten metal exit
A taphole is an opening through which molten metal or slag is drained from a furnace, or through which sap is collected from a tree.
In metalworking, workers periodically open the taphole to release material that has accumulated: The blast furnace taphole was plugged with clay between pours.
In maple sugaring, tapholes are drilled into tree trunks to collect sap for syrup production.
