talents

Inborn special abilities

Talents are natural abilities or aptitudes—things someone does well without extensive training: She has a talent for languages, a young man of many talents.

The word often implies gifts worth developing: Don't waste your talents.

In the ancient world, a talent was a unit of weight and money; the biblical parable of talents (coins entrusted to servants) gave rise to the modern meaning of God-given abilities.
