hidden talent
Undiscovered personal strength
A hidden talent is an ability or skill someone possesses but hasn't revealed or discovered yet.
The phrase usually implies pleasant surprise when the talent emerges: I didn't know you could sing—what a hidden talent!
It suggests untapped potential waiting to be recognized, whether by others or by the person themselves.
