swing pass
Quick outside throw
A swing pass is a short football throw to a running back who has moved laterally toward the sideline.
The back "swings" out of the backfield in an arc, catching the ball in space with room to run: He caught the swing pass and gained fifteen yards before being pushed out of bounds.
It's a safe, high-percentage play that relies on the receiver's speed after the catch.
