pick and roll

Basketball offensive play

A pick and roll is a basketball play where an offensive player sets a screen (the pick) on a defender, then moves toward the basket (the roll) to receive a pass.

The screener's teammate uses the screen to create space, forcing defenders to choose whom to guard: They ran the pick and roll to perfection.

It's among the most fundamental two-player plays in the game.
