super 8
Amateur film gauge
Super 8 is a motion picture film format introduced by Kodak in 1965, using 8mm film in easy-load cartridges.
It became the dominant format for home movies through the 1970s and early 1980s, before video largely replaced it.
The format has nostalgic associations with grainy, warm-toned footage of family gatherings and childhood: The documentary used Super 8 footage from the director's youth.
Filmmakers still use Super 8 for its distinctive aesthetic.
