subdirectories
Folders within folders
Subdirectories is the plural of subdirectory—a folder contained within another folder in a computer's file system.
The term reflects hierarchical organization: a directory may contain files and subdirectories, which themselves may contain further subdirectories.
The images are stored in subdirectories organized by date.
