backup file
Stored data copy
A backup file is a copy of data stored separately from the original, created as protection against loss or corruption.
If the original is accidentally deleted, damaged, or compromised by malware, the backup file allows recovery: I restored my documents from a backup file after the crash.
Regular backup files are fundamental to data security.
