subcontinents

Vast connected regions

Subcontinents are large, distinct landmasses that form part of a continent but are geographically or culturally set apart from the rest.

The term most commonly refers to the Indian subcontinent, which includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and neighboring countries, separated from the rest of Asia by the Himalayas.

Other regions sometimes called subcontinents include the Arabian Peninsula and Southern Africa.

The diverse languages of the subcontinent reflect centuries of cultural exchange.
