herdbook
Livestock ancestry record
A herdbook is an official registry of purebred livestock, recording pedigrees, ownership, and breeding history for cattle, sheep, horses, or other animals.
Breed associations maintain herdbooks to verify lineage and preserve breed standards: The bull's sire appears in the American Angus herdbook.
Also called a studbook, especially for horses.
