stretchers

Portable patient carriers

Stretchers is the plural of stretcher, a portable frame for carrying a sick or injured person, typically with handles at each end so two people can lift: Medics loaded the wounded onto stretchers.

A stretcher is also a frame for stretching something—canvas over a painting frame, or leather during tanning.

In masonry, a stretcher is a brick laid lengthwise along a wall.

Informally, stretchers can mean lies or exaggerations: He's been telling stretchers again.
