stop-and-frisk
Sidewalk police check
Stop-and-frisk is a police practice in which officers temporarily detain, question, and pat down a person they suspect of criminal activity.
The frisk searches for concealed weapons.
The practice became controversial in American cities, particularly New York, where critics argued it disproportionately targeted Black and Latino men: The department's stop-and-frisk policy faced legal challenges.
