Exchange trading codes
Stock symbols are short alphabetic codes identifying publicly traded securities on exchanges.
American stocks typically use one to four letters: AAPL for Apple, F for Ford.
The New York Stock Exchange tends toward shorter symbols; NASDAQ often uses four or five letters.
Lookup by stock symbol is standard in financial apps and trading platforms.
