star clusters
Celestial stellar gatherings
Star clusters are groups of stars that formed together from the same molecular cloud and remain gravitationally bound.
Astronomers distinguish two main types: open clusters, which are loose groupings of a few hundred to a few thousand young stars, and globular clusters, which are dense spheres containing hundreds of thousands of ancient stars.
The Pleiades is a famous open cluster visible to the naked eye.
