A spring washer is a metal washer that isn't flat—it's slightly bent, split, or wavy so it acts like a tiny spring.
Placed under a nut or bolt head, it maintains tension and prevents loosening from vibration: The mechanic added spring washers to keep the engine bolts from backing out.
