spotted fever
Rash-causing tick disease
Spotted fever refers to any of several infectious diseases characterized by fever and a distinctive rash of spots on the skin.
The best known is Rocky Mountain spotted fever, a potentially severe tick-borne illness caused by bacteria.
Other varieties occur in different regions worldwide.
The spots result from damage to small blood vessels: The doctor suspected spotted fever when she saw the rash spreading to his palms.
