splashdowns
Capsules hitting water
Splashdowns are instances of spacecraft landing in the ocean.
The term comes from the American space program, where capsules returning from orbit would parachute into the sea: The Apollo splashdowns were televised live.
The word applies to any controlled water landing of an aircraft or spacecraft.
