souq
Middle Eastern market
A souq is a marketplace or bazaar in Arab countries and the broader Middle East—a commercial district of shops and stalls, often covered, selling everything from spices to textiles to gold.
The word evokes narrow lanes, haggling vendors, and sensory intensity: We spent the afternoon wandering the souq in Marrakech.
Also spelled souk.
